So last year I got the awesome opportunity to shoot my first Indian wedding. Aarti and Sunil are amazing, and Aarti and I actually became friends because of this event! I take such pride in working with couples that I really connect with, and I couldn’t have asked for a better fit than these two. So… for those of you who don’t know the Vivaha, or Hindu wedding ceremony is a huge affair that lasts about a week. The three days that I got to spend with them started with the first day of Mehndi which was more of a house party than I anticipated! : )

Aarti was luminous and having way too much fun… until they got to her other hand and she had to ask for help going to the bathroom!

There’s nothing like a little dance party in the kitchen to get things moving! lol…
the intricacy of this work is amazing, and the girls from beauty by dolly’s salon were so fast!

I think Aarti was tired from being so still all day…. but her designs came out so awesome in the end. They pat lemon juice on the finished design to help the pigment set into the skin, and so having both hands (palms included) and the tops of her feet and ankles completely done, all she could do by the end was lie on the floor! What amazing patience.
Even the guys got in on the action… so fun!

I think by end of the day everyone was exhausted, but none more than this guy….
